Beauty Icon : Grace Kelly inspired make-up tutorial

Beauty Icon : Grace Kelly inspired make-up tutorial

Today I'm doing a tutorial inspired by one of my all time favorite beauty icon : Grace Kelly (also known as a Princess of Monaco).

She is to me, the most beautiful blonde actress ever in the cinema past and present. She was just pure grace and elegance. I'm a huge fan of her movies (even if I wish she did more !). "Rear Window" is in my top 10 all time favorite movies. She was such a wonderful actress and human being.
Other movie I'm a huge fan of are :
- "Dial M for Murder" (such a classic !)
- "Mogambo" (with the amazing Clark Gable and Ava Gardner - Ava is also one of my all time favorites she was just so beautiful and fun ! You should see her dance at the last ball Grace Kelly hold, she was dancing and flirting with people like if she was still 25 ! It makes me laugh every time I see the clip of it ! )
- "To Catch a Thief" (with Cary Grant - marry me now please !)

Grace Kelly was not only a great actress, she was also a wonderful human being. She is the one who inspired Princess Diana. She took part in a lot of humanitarian actions (she also hold charity balls) and she was in particular touched by sick children and old people. Let's not forget her love for her family. She brought back life and happiness to Monaco and to the life of her husband Reiner III, Prince of Monaco ; who had a quite "boring" childhood. A wonderful initiative she took, was to make movies of her family. Those are amazing to watch and you could really see how dedicated to her family she was (she had 3 children).
She left Hollywood for her new life as the Princess of Monaco but never forgot her old friends (she invited them to Monaco and she also made movies of it with are very interesting to watch). She was a very melancholic person.

She unfortunately died in a car accident in 1982 at the age of 52. On the 14th of September 2012, it will be 30 years since she passed away. Her funeral (which was of course filmed) is heartbreaking to watch.

For that tutorial I had my dear friend and model to help me recreating the look :)

Rita Hayworth 40's Glamour inspired make-up tutorial

A little bit about Rita

Rita Hayworth, born Margarita Carmen Casino, was an american (of spanish heritage) actress and dancer. She was best known for her role in the 1946's movie "Gilda". She was crowned "the love goddess" back in the days.
Although she mostly portrayed very glamorous and sexy characters in her movies, she was in real life a very shy and down to earth person. She never found true happiness and her love affairs (she got married and divorced 5 times) were all doomed to fail.
She was formally an exquisite dancer since the early age of 4, when her father pushed her into dancing. Later on she became an actress. She never fully filmed the movies she wanted as the studios were keeping her "sexy and glamorous" style to the fullest. She wanted to be a drama actress. Most of her husbands controlled her life and career and mostly saw her as a trade mark. Some of her husbands even revealed to be physically abusive.
She died at the age of 68 in 1987, of a newly discovered decease and still unknown to be cured by doctors : Alzheimer. She had 2 children.
Her story is quite sad as she never got to pursue her true dream, finding love and being happy with her family and friends.

Her make-up & Hair :

Rita was a natural dark brunette though for commercials purposes she had her hair going from light brunette, blonde and red. She had gorgeous naturally very full wavy hair. It's unfortunate to say that because she had a very small squared forehead, she actually had some of her front hair removed which was extremely painful.
Lisafreemontstreet ( youtube channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/lisafreemontstreet ) did some hair tutorials which I advice you to watch.

Rita had beautiful naturally healthy skin. Back then they were using a very heavy moisturizing cream (resembling vaseline) and stick foundation. She even became a spoke-person for Max factor. The ending look gave a semi-matte finish with an underneath glow. She had quite a square face but her heaviest contouring was around her nose. Her eye brows were very thin and elongated to her temples. Her eye make-up was very simple, she mainly wore a light warm brown eye shadow on her lids and a brownish/grey color closer to her lash line. She sometimes had a very thin eye liner on her top lash line and a light shadow on her lower lash line. She had full lashes which is why it's very important to either wear fake lashes or tones of mascara ! She had quite large and full lips and depending on her hair color she wore either a rosy red or orange red lipstick. When she became older she then wore a light orange peach lipstick. Blush wasn't the focus on her face, but she wore quite neutral shades.

Make-up How-to : Airbrush foundation with TEMPTU PRO

Make-up How-to : Airbrush foundation with TEMPTU PRO

Buy the TEMPTU PRO AirTM airbrush system here : http://shop.temptupro.com/

Let me start by saying that nothing can beat airbrush foundation. The result is the best of the best. It looks fantastic and feels fantastic too (actually you don't feel anything on your skin).
I thought I would make a tutorial on how to do your foundation using an airbrush system with an airbrush gun. (I do not have nor do love in air pod system).
The airbrush system that I own is the TEMPTU PRO AirTM System. Yes it is a very expensive airbrush system but it's also one the best on the market right now.
I will be doing a review on it later on this blog, so stay tuned for that !

The products that I'm using are all S/B products (Silicone based). I tried water based ones but I didn't like them as much as I like S/B ones. The result is much more natural with S/B products at least for me. (and I never tired Dura products so I can't tell you about them).

Don't forget to match your foundation to your chest's colour ! No white head&neck and darker body ! And if you are a little bit red because of sunburn like my model, find an area that shows the actual real tanned colour of your skin. Don't try to match your foundation to the redness of your skin.

Review : Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation

Review : Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation
(All-Day Flawless, Optimal Moisture SPF 15)

If you know me, you know that I'm really picky when it comes to foundations. I tried a lot of them, from high-end brands to drugstore brands.
My all time favorite foundation (for 3 years) is the NARS Sheer Glow. I never came across another foundation that gave me the result as good as the NARS Sheer glow.

Before I start reviewing that Shiseido foundation, I first need to tell you more about my skin type because it makes a huge difference on the final result of a foundation. I have a normal/combo sensitive skin. My skin type will change depending on the weather, on what I eat, on the pollution, ... In summer I'm a little bit on the oily side (only on my t-zones) and in winter a little bit on the dry side (mostly my cheeks and nose).

So here we go for the review ! :)

What it says it is :

- Coverage : Medium
- Finish : Semi-matte
- Skin type : Normal to Combination
 - Up to 15 hours of wear

What it actually is :

- Coverage : Medium > I don't like a full coverage foundation so this is perfect for me
- Finish : Semi-matte > This may depend on your skin type and if you powder it after. If you have a dry skin, you don't need to use a setting powder on top of it. If you have more of a combination/oily skin you will need to powder it. But it won't give you a full matte finish.
- Skin type : Dry, normal, combination/oily and mature skins > That foundation will look good on almost all skin types. As I said if you have a dry skin you don't need to powder it, but since it's a moisturizing foundation it won't dry out your skin. For people with more of an combination/oily skin you will need to powder it. It's a smooth and light liquid foundation so blends nicely into more mature skins too. If you have a very oily skin this won't be a good foundation for you.
- Well that's the impressive part of that foundation. It does last a very long time. I wouldn't say 15 hours but definitely 10/12 hours (no touch up needed). I wore it from 9am to 10pm when I was in my country house last week. It started to slide off my face around 7pm and I spent my afternoon under a very hot sun. Didn't get oily and no touch up.

Packaging :

The foundation comes in a tiny plastic squeezing bottle... and this is awesome ! It's perfect to carry in your bag or on vacation. The amount of foundation is like any other regular foundation : 30 mL / 1 FL. OZ. The packaging is so tiny that you actually think there would be less foundation than that in it.

Shades :

Now that's the only down part of that foundation. It only comes into 8 shades : B20, B40, B60, B100, I00, I20, WB40, WB60. B stands for Natural Beige, I for Ivory and WB for Warm Beige. Mine is the lightest which is I00. If you have a dark complexion you won't find a shade for you and if you have a very yellow undertone that foundation doesn't offer the shades 020 or O40 which are standing for Ochre colors.

That foundation is also non-comedogenic et dermatologist-tested.

It retails for 34€ in France (tax included), which is around US$42. I think Shiseido is not that expensive in France, so you may wanna check the regular price in your country. I know for a fact that that foundation is very very expensive in Australia but Australia is soooo expensive when it comes to make-up, it's insane ! I heard people paying AU$82 for it !

In conclusion this is my new favorite foundation, for winter at least. NARS Sheer Glow is still my fav for summer because it gives that instant glow to my face.

Hope that review helped you.

Talk to you guys later ! :)
